The Red River Valley Sugarbeet Museum has chosen
September 9, 2007 for their fall Harvest Festival. Sugarbeets will
be harvested with a McCormick-Deering 1 row harvester and a 2 row
John Deere harvester on the Museum grounds on the northeast edge
of Crookston, MN. Besides the harvesting machines numerous other
pieces of antique sugarbeet machinery will be on display. Video
pictures will be playing continuously of sugarbeet work in the "Good
Old Days".
A steam engine driven threshing machine will thresh bundles of
wheat throughout the afternoon.
The Museum has decided to honor the former Northwest School of
Agriculture and present Experiment Station for "Continued
Dedication and Leadership to the Sugarbeet Industry". At one
time more graduates of the NWSA were growing sugarbeets in the
Valley than any other high school. The Experiment Station began
doing research with sugarbeets in the teens and have continued
to do so to the present day. The Sugarbeet Institute had it's beginning
as a reserch reporting day at the NWSA.
There will be pork roast and potato salad dinner served
